INSTALLATION DAY: April 14th, 2017
Over the past few months, Energy Business Alliance has been working with Marietta College's administration and Universal Wellhead Services to bring another educational aid to the front of the Brown Petroleum Engineering Building. Within the next few weeks, a model Marcellus Shale-style wellhead will be displayed on the front patio of the building. At approximately 10' tall and 4,000 pounds, no detail is being spared. This display will help educate petroleum engineering students on wellhead components, assembly, work-over procedures, and more for decades to come.
This display also serves to closely correspond with the design of the Wunnenberg 38H, a simulated Utica Shale well that Energy Business Alliance members designed this past spring. The simulated well was coined the "Wunnenberg 38H" in memory of freshman member Joel Wunnenberg on March 9th, 2017. Furthermore, 38H corresponds to Joel's Marietta College football jersey number. Thus, our wellhead will be physically labeled as the "Wunnenberg 38H." Learn more about Joel Wunnenberg and our efforts to further his legacy here. →
On Saturday, April 14th, Marietta College students, as well as extended friends and family of Joel Wunnenberg, will be present to help with and witness the installation. The wellhead itself will come in multiple pieces and will need to be lifted into place by machinery and assembled. Compliance Energy Services will oversee the wellhead installation to ensure public safety. Before installation begins, all in attendance will participate in an industry standard "tailgate meeting" where the plans, as well as any safety risks and mitigation plans will be discussed. This will ensure that everyone is aware of their duties and that no incidents will occur. After that, those willing to participate can help in the installation and assembly process. Representatives from Universal Wellhead Services will be present during the installation process to help educate members on the components of our new model wellhead. Once the wellhead is installed, the symbolic nameplate will be attached by some of Joel's closest family and friends.
We openly invite the public to come watch and participate in this exciting day. Below is a rough schedule:
- 10:00am - Equipment delivered to site and tested (if necessary)
- 12:00pm - Cookout (food will include hotdogs and hamburgers)
- 1:00pm - Tailgate safety meeting (all present must attend), installation begins
- Once installation is completed, the wellhead sign will be mounted
