Remembering Joel Wunnenberg

With tremendous sadness, Energy Business Alliance learned of the unexpected passing of freshman member, Joel Wunnenberg, on Thursday, March 9th, 2017.

Joel was a quintessential Marietta College student — a petroleum engineering major, an, EBA member, a student-athlete on the football team, and a member of the McDonough Leadership program — and he truly wanted to use his strong work ethic to help others. Indeed, Joel’s happy and ambitious personality will be missed in all corners of the Marietta College community.

To honor and perpetuate Joel’s legacy, EBA will name our first simulated Utica well pad and future wells “drilled” on location after him. The Wunnenberg 38H will be our first horizontal well, and is named after his Marietta football jersey number; the second well (22H) will commemorate his Springdale High School football jersey number. Please join us in remembering Joel and allowing his legacy to push us to be as strong, ambitious, and happy in life as he was. Learn more →

Renaming Our Pad

Remembering Joel During Our Field Trips

On Friday, March 24th, nine EBA members had the opportunity to tour one of Northeast Natural Energy's frac sites. Before members even stepped foot on site, everyone put "Joel Wunnenberg 38" stickers on the left side panel of their hard hats (see group photo here) in honor Joel's life and in remembrance of the tours that Joel had attended with us prior to his passing.  EBA members intend to continue this display on future tours in which hard hats are required and hope that our fellow petroleum related student organizations will do the same.

Memorial Project

Energy Business Alliance has partnered with Universal Wellhead Services to bring a Marcellus Shale-styled wellhead to Marietta College's Brown Petroleum Engineering Building. Not only will it serve as a tremendously valuable teaching aid, but it will be labeled as the "Wunnenberg 38H." Learn more. →
